What the random color picker does
Press the button and the tool picks a random color for you and shows it large on screen, so you can see it properly instead of judging a tiny swatch. Each pick is drawn with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every color in the set has the same chance of coming up.
Ways to use a random color
- Art and drawing prompts: spin a color and build a sketch, painting or outfit around it. Spin twice for a two-color palette.
- Design warm-ups: force yourself out of your usual palette by designing a logo, poster or slide using whatever color comes up.
- Classroom games: young learners name the color, find something in the room that matches it, or say a word that starts with the same letter.
- Team and game picks: assign teams by color, decide which game piece someone plays, or choose a theme color for a party or event.
- Everyday decisions: can't choose which shirt, mug or notebook to use today? Let the color decide.
Tips
If you need a specific palette, note down each result and keep spinning until you have three to five colors that work together. For picking between options that aren't colors — names, prizes, chores — use the Custom Wheel instead, which holds up to 100 entries.
Is every color equally likely?
Yes. The tool does not favor bright, dark or popular colors, and earlier picks have no effect on the next one. If the same color comes up twice in a row, that is normal randomness, not a pattern.
